Harrietville hosts the Annual Harrietville Bluegrass and Traditional Country Music Convention every November and commercial tour companies also provide horse riding, canoeing, gliding and more.

 

Harrietville was properly named in 1861 after a woman called Harriet Tisdale, one of the few white women living in this area at the time. In 1879 Harrietville was proclaimed a town. Its history is captured in a riverside park that celebrates the local pioneers, and is a pleasant spot to picnic or stretch your legs. There are lots of great places for lunch or a leisurely afternoon tea. If you’re properly equipped and fit, you can take the walking tracks to Mount Hotham or Mount Feathertop, which are challenging but spectacular. Harrietville currently thrives on tourism and the ski industry and is definitely a beautiful township providing a relaxing and ideal holiday destination. Getting Here:

 

From Melbourne: Harrietville is a 4-hour drive from Melbourne. Take the Hume Highway to Glenrowan, at Glenrowan take the Milawa exit. Follow the signs to Myrtleford, and then follow the signs to Bright. Harrietville is 25km on from Bright towards Mt Hotham on the Great Alpine Road. Harrietville is the last town this side of Mt Hotham.

From Sydney: Take the Hume Highway to Albury-Wodonga and follow the snow signs to Yackandandah then turn off to Myrtleford. At Myrtleford turn left onto the Great Alpine Road. Follow the signs to Bright and then on to Harrietville.

 

Trains and buses also run to Harrietville.
